OLD PARAMUS REFORMED CHURCH

HEALTH MINISTRY

HOW IS THIS MINISTRY CARRIED OUT?

The major players in our Health Ministry include the HEALTH CABINET and the PARISH NURSE.

The Health Cabinet members come from many walks of life and professions with the common purpose of promoting the concept of holistic body, mind and spiritual health. They coordinate new and ongoing programs and services.

THE HEALTH CABINET AND ITS RESPONSIBILITIES

HEALTH EDUCATION - This important segment of Health Ministry is carried out by Health Educator Helen Thoman. A monthly theme is developed. It is shared through a column in The Spire, the church newsletter. Bulletin boards with pertinent articles and supportive literature geared to specific age and gender groups are displayed in the Education Building, and various groups are resourced, and seminars and workshops provided.

MINISTRY OF CARE AND CONCERN - This program headed by Karen Capuano provides the opportunity for members of the church family to sign up indicating their availability for various services.
The general categories identified are:

Requests for help are responded to with Christian love in a timely manner. As people's needs are met they are enabled to move toward developing their strengths in meaningful ways.

DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT CLOSET - The Health Cabinet maintains a durable medical equipment closet which contains a variety of equipment and assistive devices. These items are available on a lending basis for however long they are needed.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING AND GLUCOSE SCREENING - On the third Sunday of each month, during the Fellowship Hour following the worship service, Registered Nurses provide blood pressure screening and health counseling. Every three months, glucose screening is also available.

The HEALTH CABINET meets every sixth Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. The following contribute their gifts and skills to enable this program to carry out the healing ministry of Christ.
